Winding Way Socks

I’ve been having some knitter’s block lately. I’ve been designing lots of my own stuff but I just haven’t wanted to knit other peoples’ patterns. I knew I was going to want a portable project for my trip home at the end of this week, so I was starting to get a bit worried. I never ever want to be left without a project, especially on a trip… what would I do with myself?! Fortunately, Emily and Alexa of Tin Can Knits, for whom I’ve tested before, are working on their new collection, Handmade in the UK, and had these lovely socks up for testing. I knew exactly what yarn I wanted to use and was so excited to be chosen as a tester since the socks were such a hit.

The pattern hasn’t yet been released but the working name is Winding Way Socks. There is a lace panel on the leg and foot. I’m using Cascade Heritage Paints in the colourway 9825 Isle of Skye. I love these so far… they are perfect. (Rav link).

What are your cures for knitters’ block?

I’ll be linking up with KCCO, Yarn-Along, and WIP Wednesday as usual!

  1. Cheryl Cheryl

Loving the colour of those socks! When I have creative block I hangout on pinterest. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, I’ve had this yarn for awhile and I loved the colour so much I wanted to save it for the perfect project!
I love Pinterest as well but it’s kind of like a black hole of inspiration… once I start looking it’s hard to stop!

  2. When I have a knitting block, well I knit socks. πŸ™‚

    • Perfect solution… I think I should just always have a pair of socks on the needles.

  3. The sock is lovely! I really like the yarn too.
When I have knitters block I spend some time looking at projects on Ravelry. Something usually catches my eye and I cast it on right away.

    • Thanks Karen! Ravelry is such a great resource- so many talented knitters!

  4. Ooo. Nothing like a beautiful bold yarn and an interesting pattern to break knitter’s block. Looking good!

  5. I knit something fast and from my stash – like a bowl that I can felt and give away. Something simple and fast usually gets me going again!
    Love the sock pattern!

    • I agree- I sometimes work on squares for a blanket or another simple, long-term project!
      Thanks πŸ™‚

  6. Love the colour of your socks. I usually go check out patterns and yarns πŸ™‚

    • Thanks- I really like this yarn, it’s one of my favourites for socks!

  7. I am having a minor fiber block right now too. For me I think it’s fatigue. I think sometimes it helps to give yourself permission to take a short break and then find something fast and fun to make when you start again. Your socks look great.

    • I agree- I sort of put down my knitting for awhile and just waited for something to jump out at me.
      Thanks πŸ™‚
