This week…

Knitting :: Finished my Vanilla Latte Socks in Patons Kroy Sock (Rav link). I love how they turned out! These are my first pair of socks in my challenge to knit 12 socks in a year! I’m working on my Plain Vanilla Socks now, in the same yarn. Apparently this week is vanilla themed!

Reading :: The Penguin Book of Canadian Short Stories (selected by Jane Urquhart). This is for a Canadian Literature course that I’m taking and we’re reading selected stories from this (giant!) anthology. (Goodreads link).

Mockingjay (by Suzanne Collins). I finished Catching Fire this week so that I could see the movie, and it made sense to just finish the series. I enjoyed the first book, but the next two in the trilogy aren’t quite as good. I’ll probably finish this just to find out what happens. (Goodreads link).

Watching :: The fifth season of Community (so good now that Dan Harmon is back!) and the second season of New Girl, which was recommended to me by a friend. I am enjoying way it more than I expected… the characters are great and it’s quite funny.

I hope you are all having a wonderful week – let me know in the comments what you’re knitting, reading, and watching!

I’ll be linking up with Yarn-Along and KCCO as usual.

Beautiful job on the socks! I have yet to take on the challenge of knitting socks. I’m kinda gutless that way.

    I love Can Lit!

    • Thanks!
Socks are one of my favourite things to knit and even though people make a really big deal about them, they’re not really all that difficult! Just pick a pattern that has good reviews on Ravelry and you’ll definitely be fine. Let me know how it goes 🙂
Canadian lit tends to get pushed aside but there are some really stellar writers of short stories (Leacock, Heiti, Gallant, etc.) so I’m really loving the course!

  2. I’ve made a bunch of those vanilla latte socks and they are the best fitting socks I’ve made so far. Great colorway!

    • Thanks!
I’ve been trying to figure out what’s different about them… you’re right, they fit so perfectly! I’ll definitely be coming back to the pattern!

      • Oooh, the cables are gorgeous on those! I can’t wait to see yours.

  3. Wonderful socks there! I really need to go to Michaels and get a pair of Kroy sock yarn now :P.

    • Thanks Nika! I quite like it because it’s pretty thick compared to other sock yarns, so it doesn’t wear through quite as fast.

  4. Beautiful socks, I really will have to pull mine up and just knit a pair don’t know why i keep putting it off.

    • Thanks! Socks are a lot of fun to knit, let me know how yours turn out!

  5. beautiful socks, I’m nearly done with a pair, at least I’d like to be done this week. The socks look so cozy.

    • Thanks Karen!
It’s definitely the weather for cosy socks right now!

  6. I didn’t like the second two books in the Hunger Games series as much as the first – they felt rushed and overdone – but I did like where Katniss ended up. Psychologically, it felt very realistic.

    • I agree- I think there’s simultaneously too much and not enough going on, and her writing suffers as a result later in the series.
The storyline hasn’t gotten too old yet, though, so I’ll definitely be finishing it!

  7. The socks came out great! I am using my leftover Kroy in my shawl – I just love the color changes. I need to read Mockingjay soon. I was all ready after finishing Catching Fire but got caught up in other books.

    • Thanks Donna! Kroy is a great yarn.
That’s exactly what happened to me after reading The Hunger Games… it took me forever to read Catching Fire because I kept getting distracted by other books! It’s definitely worth reading just to wrap up the series, though.

    • Thanks Nicole!
And thanks for hosting KCCO each week… I have found many of my favourite bloggers through Yarn Along and KCCO.
I hope you and your family are settling in to your new (even if temporary) home!
