Yarn Along

This week, I’ve been…

Knitting :: A simple pair of toe-up socks, but with a twist- an afterthought heel! I’ve never done an afterthought heel before, but I like it so far! The yarn is Turtle Toes self-striping, which I picked up at the Toronto Knitter’s Frolic a few weeks ago. It’s neat because it comes in 2 identical small skeins- one from each sock. As long as you start from the same end of both balls, your socks turn out the same!

Reading :: I’ve just started Where’d You Go, Bernadette, which lots of people have been recommending. I’m only a little ways in, but it seems like it will be a fun summer read.
I’ve also been perusing The Beginner’s Guide to Growing Heirloom Vegetables, which is a nice guide to some basic heirloom varieties with beautiful photos. I just wish it had more info about container gardening with heirloom varieties- if you have any resources, I’d love to hear about them in the comments!

What have you been knitting and reading this week?

Linking up with KCCO and Yarn-Along.

I absolutely love that sock yarn! Looks like you have some excellent reading material right now-enjoy!

Thanks Kat! I love the colourway and the 2 skein idea as well πŸ™‚

  2. ann ann

You are the second person today I’ve heard of doing an afterthought heel. It sounds intriguing. I may have t give it a try. Your Turtle Purl yarn is simply scrumptious!

Thanks Ann! I’m liking the afterthought heel so far because after the toe, it’s just stockinette in the round, no thinking required. Perfect for on the subway or otherwise distracted.

  3. Very clever, that sock yarn! My officemate read Where’d You Go Bernadette and loved it! I need to put it on my to read list, definitely.

    • kyliemw kyliemw

Thanks Wendy! I’ll definitely share my thoughts once I finish the book!

  4. I am crazy for that yarn! The stripes! The colors! I will have to get my hands on some one day! I vote for the afterthough heel, too. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to messing with a gusset and all that jazz. It seems way faster and looks nicer.

    • kyliemw kyliemw

Thanks Laura! It’s a really awesome colourway- I love the way the stripes are different widths.

  5. Love, love, love that sock yarn. It almost makes me want to attempt sock knitting again. (I’ve only ever completed one sock, not one pair.) πŸ™‚

    • kyliemw kyliemw

Thanks Alethea! Socks are one of my favourite projects so I’d definitely recommend giving them another shot πŸ™‚

  6. The yarn is gorgeous, love the black stripes. I like an afterthought heel with stripes, this looks lovely.
