FO: Minecraft Creeper Hat and Mittens

Now that Christmas is over, I can finally share some of the top-secret projects I’ve been working on over the past few months! First up is this hat and mitten set I made for my little brother. He plays the game Minecraft a lot, and even though I’ve only played it once, I’ve deduced enough to put together a creeper-themed gift.

The hat pattern is here, and I used the pattern for the body of the hat but substituted in my own decreases for the crown. The mitten pattern is a vintage pattern, found here, and I think this is going to be my new go-to mitten pattern. There are instructions for a bunch of sizes and for both in the round and flat, and I’m really happy with how they turned out. The yarn for both is Vanna’s Choice (In Black and Kelley Green)- I wanted something machine washable and in a very bright green.

(Rav link for the hat and for the mittens)

As you can probably see in the pictures, both the mittens and the hat are both already well-worn… I might have to make him a new set next year if he keeps wearing them this much! I’m so glad he likes them.

I’ll post about the rest of my Christmas knits in the next week or so. Did you knit any Christmas gifts?

White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies in a Jar

10-12-2013_02 copy

I have a recipe for you today.. not only are these cookies delicious, but layered in a jar like this, they make a perfect gift! Only 3 ingredients need to be added to the contents of the jar before baking so anyone can definitely make these. You could, of course, also mix the ingredients together in a bowl if you plan to bake and eat them straightaway.

The cranberries and white chocolate go nicely together, and the pop of red makes these cookies perfect for Christmas.

I’m at my parents’ house for awhile (4 finals down, 1 to go!) and Christmas is definitely taking over! There was even snow here when I arrived on Wednesday but it’s melted since then. Fortunately it snowed a bit this morning so I’m sure it’ll be white and Christmassy again soon.

We’ve been doing lots of baking as well. I’ll be posting the recipe for the jar cookies in the above picture on Monday… they make a perfect gift!

Happy weekend! I hope you are all having a great one.

Insta-Friday

I haven’t shared any Instagram shots here for a few weeks, so it’s about time for another Insta-Friday! I’m going to be quieter on the blog for the next week or so because it’s the end of term, so there are final papers and exams, and I only have so many hours in a day! I have, however, started drafting my year-in-review series (last year’s), which I’m pretty excited about! I think I’ll be publishing it in 3 parts beginning on December 28th.

You can follow me on Instagram @kyliem_w for more phone snapshots!

Last bit of fall. All of the leaves are gone now.

Sunday brunch!

First of the Christmas decorations.

Walking with some friends on Sunday morning.

Quite a bit of snow here lately!

I’ll be returning to my corner in the library now… I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Linking up with Insta-Friday as usual!

Stitching

I’ve been knitting like crazy this week but it’s all gifts for people who read this blog so I can’t show anything here yet! I figured I could at least show you the yarn since you won’t have any idea what it’s becoming or who it’s for.

I can show you my cross stitching, though, since it’s not a gift for anyone. I seem to only cross-stitch around Christmas… at least I always have loads of ornaments. Any guesses as to what I’m stitching? I think it’s pretty obvious at this point, but that could be because I’ve seen the chart!

Speaking of Christmas, I went into a store the other day and the Christmas aisle just attacked me, so of course I had to hang a few decorations! I’m not going to do much decorating at my apartment (I won’t even put up my tiny tree!) because I’m going to be gone for most of December anyway. I figured the ornaments in the window are small and out of the way, so they work nicely. If you celebrate, have you started decorating for the holidays yet? Or are you like my mum who refuses to start decorating until after December 1st?

I’ll be linking this post up with KCCO and Yarn-Along as usual!

WIP: Featherweight

I have a lot of projects on the go right now, but some of them I can’t share here just yet, either because they’re new designs or because they’re gifts for people who read this blog… but I do have a few non-secretive projects that I can post about.

First, my featherweight cardigan, which is coming along well despite the mind-boggling amount of stockinette stitch in laceweight. I’m about 1″ into the ribbing at the bottom, and then I have the sleeves and button bands/ collar left. Please expect completion of this project sometime in 2032.

(Rav link)

I’ve also been working on some dishcloths as a gift for my grandmother for Christmas (I make her these every year, as some of you might recall). I have one more to make and then these will be my first Christmas FO of the year. (62 days…)

I’m linking this post up with KCCO and Yarn-Along (better late than never?)
