Spring blooms at High Park

Although the cherry blossoms are usually in bloom around this weekend, the weather this winter and spring has been so strange that there isn’t a cherry blossom in sight at high park. Maybe they’ll bloom in the next little while, but it’s possible that they won’t bloom at all this year. That’s a bit disappointing, but there’s lots of other stuff in bloom in the park right now. I headed out for a couple of hours this morning with some friends, and the weather was so lovely – the rain held off until we were at the movies later.

Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend!

I survived my final week of papers and exams and such, and the flip side is looking pretty nice. Don’t get me wrong, everything is still insanely busy, but the number of things on my plate is stating to feel a bit more manageable. We’re still looking for a new apartment, I’ve bumped up my hours at work, and I’m prepping for a yarn festival at the end of the month for Agrestal.

The weather here has been unbelievably beautiful. Yesterday H and I went for a walk and I had to roll up the sleeves of my cardigan because the sun was so warm, and today it’s meant to be over 20 degrees. If I seem overly enthusiastic, consider that it was snowing a week ago! Since we haven’t found an apartment yet, I’m not sure what the garden situation is going to be for this year (hopefully backyard or balcony, if not possibly allotment or yard sharing). But I’m thinking of starting some seeds anyway. I doesn’t feel like spring without trays of starts and I’m sure I can find someone who would take them if I can’t plant them.

I hope you have all been having a wonderful start to spring!

Lately, I’ve been…

Knitting :: My red brick cardigan, which is coming along well but slowly. I just haven’t had that much time for knitting this week, and the sock yarn and small needles makes for a rather leisurely pace. Makes for good TV / podcast knitting though!
(Rav link)

Reading :: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou. I had never read this, and it seemed like an important one – it is, and her writing is so captivating. I’ll have more to say about it when I’ve finished the book.

Enjoying :: This beautiful weather! Although today wasn’t very sunny, it was lovely and warm! And tomorrow’s supposed to be even warmer. I took these pictures on the balcony, no coat or shoes! It’s a March miracle!

Listening :: To the new CBC podcast, Someone Knows Something. I love the ads I’ve been seeing for it, and the concept, so I was really excited about it… but stories about missing kids aren’t my favourite. I’m only about halfway through the first episode, though, so I’m going to give it another few and cross my fingers that it wins me over.

What have you been knitting and reading this week?

Linking up with Yarn Along and KCCO.

P.S. I nearly forgot to say – Happy International Women’s Day!

Signs of Spring (plus an LPOAS pattern sale!)

March was sort of a miserable month here. I think it snowed more days this month than it was sunny, and it felt like, well, still winter. Fortunately it looks like we are going to have a gorgeous weekend. I was about 10 degrees today and sunny… so lovely! A couple of friends and I took advantage of the nice weather and wandered around town for a bit this afternoon. Lots of shops were closed since it’s Good Friday, but many little fruit stands and the like were open in Koreatown.

In fact, to celebrate the arrival of spring, Easter weekend, and the last week of classes, I’ve decided to have a little LPOAS pattern sale! You can use the code welcomespring2013 for 15% all LPOAS patterns and ebooks for the next week. The sale ends on Friday, April 5th at midnight. If you enjoy the sale, please feel free to share the image below with your friends! Click here to go to my Ravelry store to see the patterns.

Spring pattern sale!

I’ve been doing a lot of knitting lately, but I can’t show you any of it because it’s all design work. Soon though! In the meantime, here are some photos from our stroll today and from Craft Club on Thursday, where we made paper flowers- perfect for spring!
