We had a long weekend this week with a Monday holiday, so I took the opportunity to go for a short hike with some friends at Crothers Woods. It was actually pretty warm but it did start to snow somewhat heavily while we were walking. Other than making the trails a bit slippery, it was nice and made for some pretty pictures. I’m excited to go back in the spring and try out some of the other trails… it’s hard to believe that in a few months the landscape will be green and completely transformed!

The woods are pretty easy to get to from downtown – there’s a bus that runs from St Clair station, and it’s about a 15 minute ride, followed by a 10 minute walk. The walk to the park isn’t particularly nice (it’s a pretty industrial part of town), but it’s an easy walk nonetheless and worth it. The entrance is tucked away in the back of a Loblaws parking lot, which led to some wandering around confused before figuring out how to access the trail.

I hope you’re all keeping warm in the snowy weather!

Happy Friday, friends!

Lately, I’ve been…

Knitting // My hat for the mystery hat swap. Since taking these photos the other day, I’ve actually knit the whole body and I’m blocking the hat. Almost ready to send off to my partner!
(Rav link)

Reading // Irene N√©mirovsky’s Suite Francaise for a class I’m taking. I have such mixed feelings about it. It’s such a beautifully written novel, but so sad.

Loving // The return of the snow. It’s been so cold here but without any snow, and if it’s going to be cold, it might as well be pretty too! We woke up to about a foot of snow on Monday morning… so pretty!

Baking // These muffins from Oh She Glows. They were a bit too banana-y for my taste but H liked them.

Listening // To the new NPR Invisibilia podcast… such fascinating stuff!

Excited for // The return of spring and being able to garden again!

What have you been up to this week?

I finished this hat few months ago in time for H’s twentieth birthday, but only managed to take a few photos this weekend. I’ve actually made this hat for H before (for her 17th birthday), but the original got lost sometime in the mess of the beginning of university. I knew I had to make a new one, especially since the colour goes so well with a coat that H has. I didn’t have any of the original yarn left, so I chose a similar colour- Rowan Pure Wool Aran in 674 Light Teal. I made the medium size as well as the medium length.

I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend! Happy Monday!

I took a few photos when we took the dogs for a walk last week, and it just happened to be the first major snowfall of the year! It’s been slowly melting over the last few days, but I’m still holding out hope for a white Christmas.

If you haven’t seen the video I shot during the same walk, you can see it here (and thank you for all of your lovely comments!). And if you want to see more photos from this same conservation area during all sorts of weather and seasons, they’re all here.

Hoping you all had a lovely weekend!

A Winter Walk.

I’ve seen some really lovely videos made by bloggers lately (Liesl’s are some of my favourites), so I decided to give it a try. I took a couple of clips on our walk today, since it seems to be the first significant snowfall of the year! The music in the video is White Winter Hymnal by Birdy.

I’d love your feedback- how do you like seeing videos along with photos?

Also- I’m having my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow morning so I’ll be away for a few days. Hopefully I’ll be back very soon!

When I was visiting my parents last weekend, we got our first proper snowstorm of the year! It’s actually stayed pretty cold since, and there’s been some more snow, so it looks quite lovely outside. We’ve started decorating for Christmas a bit early this year, so the weather seems suitable! I’ll share some pictures of our Christmas decorations and our little tree in a few days.

Go here to see the rest of the photos I’ve taken at this conservation area. There wasn’t snow yet last November!

Do you have snow yet? I’d love to see a photo if you do!

I had a few days off from school at the beginning of this week, and I’ve spent the longer weekend visiting my parents. Winter seems to have made its first true appearance, so I spent most of my time indoors with a cup of tea, frantically knitting Christmas gifts… More to come later this week.

I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend and are enjoying the snow if you got some!

It was warm yesterday (it rained!) but there’s still lots of snow and ice. It’ll be a while before it’s properly spring, but hopefully we’re in the final stretch of winter.

Other photos from this same conservation area in November are here.

Have a beautiful weekend!

Insta-Friday

I haven’t shared any Instagram shots here for a few weeks, so it’s about time for another Insta-Friday! I’m going to be quieter on the blog for the next week or so because it’s the end of term, so there are final papers and exams, and I only have so many hours in a day! I have, however, started drafting my year-in-review series (last year’s), which I’m pretty excited about! I think I’ll be publishing it in 3 parts beginning on December 28th.

You can follow me on Instagram @kyliem_w for more phone snapshots!

Last bit of fall. All of the leaves are gone now.

Sunday brunch!

First of the Christmas decorations.

Walking with some friends on Sunday morning.

Quite a bit of snow here lately!

I’ll be returning to my corner in the library now… I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Linking up with Insta-Friday as usual!

Insta-Friday

Did you see the recipe I posted on Tuesday? It’s the first one I’ve published here so I’m pretty excited about it.

Sharing some quick Instagram shots today. Happy Friday!

Lunch!

My beautiful dog… I’ll get to see him again in just a few weeks!

Weekly craft club… making tissue paper flowers. And having tea, of course.

Rainy night… I took this at about 8:00pm and it had just gotten dark. I am so happy that it’s brighter in the evenings!

An afternoon of tea and crime and punishment!

Late night sushi (for when you forget to have dinner because you’re writing a history paper…)

Studying classics. Exams are only 3 weeks away so it’s getting close to crunch time!

The first day of spring… more like still winter!

Follow me on Instagram @kyliem_w for more throughout the week!
